Come hungry and leave with money in your pocket!
New York City Restaurant Week only happens twice a year, and each summer and winter we look forward to its return. Restaurant Week is now upon us! The name is deceptive, because it lasts for 3 weeks not just 1, and believe me, we are not complaining about it. Over 300 of the city’s top restaurants offer 3 course, prix fixe meals for lunch and dinner. Prices are a steal, with a leisurely lunch at $25 and decadent dinners at only $38. Each year this event adds trendy newcomers to a long list of regular participants, many well-known and well-loved fine dining establishments are among those participating. This is not a ploy for struggling restaurants to find new customers, it is a much celebrated event that inspires and excites restauranteurs and diners alike! Many of our favorite spots are on this list, and like many New Yorkers we only make our reservations at those favorite, but oh so pricey places during these lucky few weeks.
One of those places is Barbetta, the oldest restaurant in New York still owned by its founding family, and also New York’s oldest Italian restaurant. It’s also the oldest restaurant in the Theatre District. It has even earned a landmark status by the Locali Storici D’Italia for these distinctions. In a glittering interior decorated with 18th century Italian antiques Barbetta serves the cuisine of Piemonte, Italy’s northwestern most region, known for hearty, complex and satisfying meat and pasta dishes such as “agnolotti,” pasta made with eggs stuffed beef, pork, or rabbit, flavoured with sausage, parmesan cheese, eggs and herbs. “Risotti” or rice dishes are another speciality, often covered with truffles – yum! This is the perfect food for this time of year and with Restaurant Week upon us everyone can enjoy it.
Need a place to stay close by? We’ve got you covered! Our new properties YMidWest1 and YMidWest2 are each within walking distance and both currently have availability, so whether you are looking to get away for some romance or you’d like to bring your family and friends to enjoy the deals that are on right now we would be happy to take care of you!
It’s not just the “fancy” restaurants participating either – we have a list as long as your arm of very interesting and wonderful eateries with a vibe and décor to suit any tastes – here is a small list of others we are crazy about:
Acme 9 ,Blue Water Grill , Beauty and Essex , BLT Bar and Grill , Blue Smoke , Butter , Casa Mono , Colicchio&Sons , Dovetail , Fig&Olive , I Trulli , Indochine , Les Halles , Lure Fishbar , Mark Joseph Steakhouse , The Mercer Kitchen , Morimoto , Morrell Winebar and Café , Perry St. , The Red Cat and Red Rooster Harlem
This list is by no means complete, in fact I encourage you all to make NYC Restaurant Week an annual (or bi-annual!) excuse to come and explore all of the culinary opportunities our fair city has to offer. Still need convincing? Well NYCGO is holding a photo contest – you could win a $300 gift card to many of these very restaurants just by taking a pic and posting it with #NYCRESTAURANTWEEK . So come visit the Big Apple today and take a big bite!
